Words, a poem

            Words

Were I the most gifted of poets,
I would shower you with metaphors
Magnificent in their imagery,
Similes from open spaces,
Palindromes from central places,
Brilliant allusion, apposition and interjection
With clever onomatopoeia.
But the gift I offer is not in the wrapping;
Its value not readily evident.
These words I use contain my gift.
Take them as they are;
They vessel my soul.
